Mt. Makalu is renowned as the fifth tallest mountain in the world which is situated at the 20km east of Everest in the Khumbu region. It is a unique and isolated peak that is popular for impressive pyramid shape along with its four sharp ridges. In its surrounding, there is a Makalu Barun National Park and this mountain is placed in the boundary between Nepal and China. Among the 8000m peaks, Makalu is one of the hardest peaks for climbing in the Himalayas and it has evidence that only the fifth of the sixteen attempts were successful during Makalu expedition. The mountain has challenging steep, pitches and knife and in the final ascent of the summit pyramid involves technical rock climbing. The first ascent on Mt. Makalu was on 15th May, 1955 by French team after the several attempts were made.This expedition is mostly climbed from the north and northeast ridge via the saddle between Kangchungtse and Makalu, which is the standard route among other five routes.
